TDP 630: Survivors 5 from Big Finish

Synopsis

It begins with just a few people falling ill. Another flu virus that spreads around the globe. And then the reports begin that people are dying…

When most of the world's population is wiped out, a handful of survivors are left to pick up the pieces.

Cities become graveyards. Technology becomes largely obsolete. Mankind must start again. But viruses are survivors too...

5.1 The Second Coming by Andrew Smith

Millions died when the plague swept the globe. Such a thing couldn’t possibly happen again - or could it?

When Abby Grant and Evelyn Piper both arrive at Carol Baker’s Maythorne community, a chain of events is set in motion that could unleash a new wave of death across the country.

5.2 New Blood by Christopher Hatherall

Danger surrounds Whitecross when a simple border dispute exposes deadly tensions between those who live side by side.

Greg Preston and Jenny Richards soon find themselves fighting for their lives, as people in the grip of a terrible new fear turn to the old ways to protect themselves...

5.3 Angel of Death by Simon Clark

Emerging from a quarantined Whitecross, Greg and Jenny discover that the danger they glimpsed at Springton is far from over.

Meanwhile, as isolated communities find themselves exposed to a disease they know nothing about, Abby joins a desperate race to save lives.

5.4 Come the Horsemen by Andrew Smith

In times of crisis, rumour and fear run rife across the decimated landscape of Britain. Evelyn and Abby experience the lethal effects of this panic first hand.

At such times the worst of humanity is exposed. Can Greg and Jenny find the best in those around them? Or is there no way to avoid the coming of the horsemen?

NOTE: Survivors contains adult material and is not suitable for younger listeners.

TDP 633: UNIT - Silenced from @BigFinish

This title was released in November 2016. It will be exclusively available to buy from the BF website until January 31st 2017, and on general sale after this date. Decades after their defeat by the Eleventh Doctor, the Silence prepare to rise against humanity.... 1. House of Silents There is no record of the presence of an alien species known as ‘The Silents’ on Earth. UNIT has never engaged hostiles capable of editing themselves from observers’ memories. There is no evidence that such an opponent, if real, is regrouping and beginning a new plan of infiltration and manipulation. Kate Stewart and her team are in no mortal danger. How can they be, when they don’t even know the enemy exists? 2. Square One It’s business as usual at UNIT, and thankfully, Kate Stewart has no immediate threats to concern her. Or so she believes. But when Sam Bishop returns from leave, he notices things aren’t quite as they seem. Soon he and Osgood are on the trail of an elusive enemy. Meanwhile, Kenneth LeBlanc and his controversial political movement gather momentum, and one UNIT team member isn’t quite themselves... 3. Silent Majority Kenneth LeBlanc looks set to lead his party to national victory, overturning political opinion and taking the polls by storm. UNIT can only stand and watch as a silent revolution takes place. But who are LeBlanc’s real backers? And what use to them is the triumph of a leader who seems to be nothing more than a liability? The Silents are about to make the headlines. 4. In Memory Alone When Sam Bishop and Osgood visit an orbiting space station for a routine mission, they have no idea that they are part of an alien scheme, years in the planning. As the global situation spins out of control, Kate seeks help from an unlikely source. The Silents are not done with humanity yet Written By: Matt Fitton, John Dorney Directed By: Ken Bentley Cast Jemma Redgrave (Kate Stewart), Ingrid Oliver (Petronella Osgood), Warren Brown (Lieutenant Sam Bishop), James Joyce (Captain Josh Carter), Ramon Tikaram (Colonel Shindi), Tracy Wiles (Jacqui McGee), Joanna Wake (Miss Faversham), Nicholas Day (Kenneth LeBlanc/Heston), Tom Alexander (Cecil/Derek), Aaron Neil (Homeless Man/News Reporter/David), Nimmy March (Baroness Vance/Telokni), John Banks (Mission Control/Captain/Soldier) and Nicholas Briggs as The Silence. TDP: 624 The War Doctor Vol 3 - Agent of Chaos

This title was released in October 2016. It will be exclusively available to buy from the BF website until December 31st 2016, and on general sale after this date The Time War between Daleks and Time Lords rages across the history of the cosmos. Nowhere is safe. Worlds are ravaged by battles beyond their understanding, but certain other races hunger to fight in the ultimate conflict. When Earth comes under threat, the War Doctor is drawn into Ollistra’s schemes once again. But the wily Time Lord Cardinal has not foreseen every move. The Dalek Time Strategist has its own game-pieces in play, and when volatile forces with their own agenda join the fray, no-one can predict how the war might turn… 3.1 The Shadow Vortex by David Llewellyn Cardinal Ollistra exploits the War Doctor’s affection for Earth to send him to East Berlin, 1961, on the trail of a Dalek agent. Lara Zannis has breached the planet’s quantum shield on a very special mission for the Dalek Time Strategist. Caught between MI6 and the KGB, the War Doctor must first escape the Stasi before he can hope to stop Lara. Cold War scientists are about to make a breakthrough – the Daleks want control of the ‘Shadow Vortex’, and Agent Zannis can provide it. 3.2 The Eternity Cage by Andrew Smith Sontarans are the ultimate warriors – so they believe – and the Time War the ultimate conflict. Denied that glory by Skaro and Gallifrey alike, General Fesk of the Eighth Sontaran Battle Fleet employs a dangerous strategy to draw both sides to the planet Rovidia and prove his forces worthy… Meanwhile, the War Doctor leads a rescue mission, aided by Rovidian street-urchin Kalan. Neither Daleks nor Time Lords expect the Sontarans to be so fearsome a foe, until they uncover the secret of the Eternity Cage. 3.3 Eye of Harmony by Ken Bentley In the aftermath of events on Rovidia, the Dalek Time Strategist is presented with a unique opportunity to strike a lethal blow to the heart of Gallifrey. A devastating power is set to be unleashed, and with agents in place ready to do the bidding of the Dalek Time Strategist, the future of the Time War could turn in an instant. Trapped inside a critically-damaged Battle-TARDIS, hopelessly adrift in the Time Vortex, the War Doctor and his allies have a final desperate fight on their hands... The Federation sends out twenty pursuit ships to hunt Blake down and destroy him, but the Liberator withstands the assault and manages to get away. He teleports down to the planet to rescue Inga, and meanwhile, unknown to Blake, Avon sends a message to Servalan with Travis' location. Concerned about Blake, Avon also teleports to the planet and later Vila joins him. The three are eventually rounded up by Travis, and his gang of "crimos," (criminal psychopaths), and Travis reveals his intention to take the Liberator after he kills them. Inga and her father Ushton manage to trick Travis and release Blake and his team, who eventually leave Travis to be found by Servalan. Servalan must answer to the mishandling of the Blake affair and she tries to have Travis eliminated by setting him up on charges of mass murder before he can testify against her. Elsewhere, distraught over losing his friend Gan, Blake goes to an uninhabited planet to "think". Believing Blake has run out on them, Avon tries to persuade the others to abandon him once and for all. Down on the planet, Blake encounters a creature called Zil who warns that he will be "absorbed" by "the Host". In space, Zen detects unusual tectonic movement on the planet and Orac determines the entire planet is a living entity, which feeds on its surface lifeforms. After being rescued, Blake decides to send a clear message to the Federation that he has not given up by launching a bold assault against Servalan's headquarters. The attack ironically allows Travis – who has been found guilty of the charges and sentenced to death – a means of escape, and he forces Servalan to help him get away.

review from @TinDogPodcast

Altrazar. The temporal Atlantis, a place lost to time. Believed by many to be a myth, it has long been the perfect location for the rich and powerful to hide away their most dangerous secrets. And, at the behest of a manipulative businessman, he's going to use it. Divergent Universe listen along

A cell. Four walls, one door. Jamie McCrimmon can escape, but it means unravelling a puzzle of extraordinary complexity.

And there are more than just two players in this game. The Doctor is there. So is his opponent, Side.

As a hero turns killer, and a rebellion becomes anarchy, the lines between good and evil are blurred. And so does the distinction between cause and effect…

But they're not the only ones interested in her Exposition. When an unusual thief commits an unusual theft, the time travellers are on the case.

What exactly is the sinister secret of Goole's Gallery? Is Tissot's heading for a meltdown? And what does it all have to do with the head of Marie Antoinette?

TDP_582: Dracula

Review of

When a young solicitor, Jonathan Harker, visits the heart of Transylvania - ostensibly to meet reclusive nobleman Count Dracula - he cannot begin to imagine what horrors might lie in store for him there… or the chain of events he will set in motion at Castle Dracula.

Soon, Dracula’s bloodlust spreads to England’s shores, and Harker’s fiancée, Mina Murray, becomes embroiled in his affairs. Her best friend, Lucy Westenra, falls victim to the vampire’s thirst, and it is only with the help of an unlikely bunch of allies that the Count might be defeated… but can the undead ever truly perish?

Mark Gatiss stars in this chilling three-hour audio adaptation of Bram Stoker’s classic vampire story, dramatised by Jonathan Barnes. This release also includes a bonus CD, featuring interviews with Dracula’s writer and cast, plus a selection of James Dunlop’s soundtrack for the production.

TDP 568: THE PETERLOO MASSACRE Main Range 210

They say there’ll be thousands pouring into Manchester tomorrow. From all over the county, north and south. It’ll be a piece of history. People will remember this!"

Lost in the smog of the Industrial Revolution, the TARDIS crashes four miles south of Manchester, in the grounds of Hurley Hall – a grand mansion belonging to a local factory owner, a proudly self-made man. But while Hurley dreams of growing richer still on the wealth of secret knowledge locked up in the Doctor’s time and space machine, his servants hope only for a fair day’s pay for a fair day’s work. His young maid Cathy, for instance, whom Nyssa learns is looking forward to joining the working people’s march to St Peter’s Field, in the heart of the city. There’ll be speeches and banners and music. It’ll be like one big jamboree…

Or so she thinks. For the city’s establishment have called in their own private militia, to control the crowd. One of the darkest days in Manchester’s history is about to unfold – and the Doctor, Nyssa and Tegan are right in the thick of it.

2.1 Beachhead by Nicholas Briggs

In an attempt to recharge his batteries after his confrontation with the Eleven, the Doctor takes Liv and Helen to the sleepy English seaside village of Stegmoor. But they find the village in turmoil and, to make matters worse, their arrival uncovers a mystery from the Doctor’s past which threatens the future safety of the planet. Can the Doctor prevent the Voord from invading Earth? And more importantly why have they come in the first place?

2.2 Scenes from Her Life by John Dorney

Investigating the appearance of the Voord on Earth, the Doctor, Liv and Helen follow a trail which takes them to the other side of the universe. There they discover a mysterious and almost deserted gothic city lost in space and time, in which the grotesque inhabitants are conducting a vile and inhumane experiment. The Doctor and his companions must hurry to save the lives of those in danger before the experiment is a success and the unimaginable consequences become all too real.

2.3 The Gift by Marc Platt

The TARDIS deposits its crew on Earth in San Francisco, 1906. There they find an actor-manager desperate to stage his definitive production of King Lear. But exposure to so much psychic activity has the Doctor becoming increasingly erratic. Can he battle his demons and save the world?

Review of

Three new battles for the War Doctor.

2.1 Legion of the Lost by John Dorney

In a time of war, every means of victory must be explored. In the Time War, the unthinkable must be thought, and neither side can afford to be squeamish about their methods.

When the destruction of an obscene weapon leads to the Time Lord once known as the Doctor uncovering a secret Gallifreyan initiative, he cannot believe what is being considered.

Should victory be sought at any cost? Or are there worse possibilities than losing to the Daleks..?

2.2 A Thing of Guile by Phil Mulryne

The Daleks are developing a secret weapon on Asteroid Theta 12. It is imperative that their plans are uncovered.

Cardinal Ollistra has her hands full studying the range of ancient and mysterious armaments the universe has to offer, but she makes it a personal mission to investigate the Dalek project.

On this dangerous assignment, there is one particular Time Lord she wants at her side - and he will be accompanying her whether he wants to or not.

2.3 The Neverwhen by Matt Fitton

On an isolated world ravaged by battle, time itself has become a weapon, laying waste to all who live and die there. Arms and technology are in a state of flux – and it seems that everlasting war is their only option.

The arrival of one battered Type Forty TARDIS inside this nightmare offers hope to the combatants trapped within.

But when he discovers the truth, the horrors of the Neverwhen will shock even the War Doctor…

TDP 560: THE CHURCHILL YEARS VOLUME 01

1. The Oncoming Storm by Phil Mulryne

Late 1939. Britain faces the might of Germany. Winston Churchill serves as First Lord of the Admiralty. But Churchill soon finds himself facing a more immediate threat than the looming Nazi menace. A ‘Stone’ with the most mysterious properties is discovered in the Thames’ sands, and soon oddly spoken soldiers are creeping round London ruthlessly trying to acquire it. Who are they? Can Churchill and his new secretary Hetty Warner defeat them? And what about the man in the battered leather jacket that Hetty meets? Churchill feels sure they can rely on the Doctor to help them! Except that this Doctor seems to want to stay hidden in the shadows…

2. Hounded by Alan Barnes

In the dark days of 1941, Britain is in the midst of war. Churchill must stand strong against the might of the enemy – but he is plagued by a darkness in his own psyche. Something he calls ‘the Black Dog’.

Can a visiting Swami hold the answer to his troubles? And can Hetty Warner prevent the Prime Minister's adversaries from taking advantage of the situation?

Across London, the Tenth Doctor's arrival may be the nation's only hope – but the Time Lord's plan to help his friend is endangered when he finds himself declared a traitor by the agents of the country he has come to protect...

3. Living History by Justin Richards

Finally given the chance to travel in the TARDIS, Winston Churchill cannot resist the opportunity of meeting Julius Caesar. But the trip does not go quite as planned. With the TARDIS gone, and Churchill stranded in ancient Britain with a young man he barely knows and who comes from the future, it seems things can hardly get any worse.

Until he is captured by the invading Romans.

Still, at least that means Churchill will meet Julius Caesar after all. But then Churchill learns of the Bronze God, feared and worshipped by the Ancient Britons. A god that he recognises as anything but divine when he meets it.

4. The Chartwell Metamorphosis by Ken Bentley

Comfortably retired to his home at Chartwell, Churchill plans to live out his days in peace, in the company of his butterflies – if his attendants would just leave him alone.

But it isn't simply Lepidoptera breeding in the gardens, as a far more sinister species is about to emerge from its cocoon – and is ready to feast on something more than just the shrubberies.

Surrounded on all sides, the former Prime Minister must put a life's worth of experience into action in order to win the day. Can his new nurse Lily Arwell offer her assistance?

Win City of Death - Paperback

@tindogpodcast interviews @Gossjam

James Goss (producer)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

James Goss (born 1974) is an English writer and producer, known both for his work in cult TV spin-off media, including tie-in novels and audio stories for Doctor Who and Torchwood, and for his fictional works beyond ready made universes.

Doctor Who[edit]

Online content[edit]

In 2000, Goss was made a BBC senior content producer and put in charge of the BBC's official Doctor Who website. Originally the site was part of the BBC's Cult TV website. Goss slowly expanded the content to include Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Farscape, The Simpsons, 24 and Doctor Who. He was subsequently voted Number 19 in TV Cream's 2004 poll of Top 50 Media Movers and Shakers.[1]

With the return of Doctor Who in 2005, the Cult site was slowly wound down in order to concentrate solely on the show. Goss moved to BBC Wales to oversee the production of the new show's web site, expanding the contents to include cast and crew interviews, games and spin-off sites based on the broadcast episodes. His aim was to construct a whole world beyond the show that viewers could get further involved in, notably employing graphic designer Lee Binding for front pages and site design, and writer Joseph Lidster for the spin-off sites' fictional content. Sequence, a Cardiff-based design agency, were also responsible for all of the 2006 Doctor Who series games, experiences and many of the associated websites. Goss also produced the video clip "krill-loop" for a tie-in website.

Television, radio and DVD[edit]

Having produced previous Doctor Who web only animations (such as Scream of the Shalka)[2] and Shada,[3] in 2005 Goss produced the animations of two missing episodes of the The Invasion. The animation, developed by Cosgrove Hall, was originally intended as web-only content[4] but was later added to the DVD release and went on to be voted best DVD special feature in the 2006 Doctor Who Magazine awards.

In 2006, Goss developed and produced The Infinite Quest, a Doctor Who animation shown on BBC One and CBBC in 2007. He was also producer of the special features for the DVD release. He has since produced DVD extra features for further 2 Entertain Doctor Who releases, including The Chase, The Keys of Marinus, The Masque of Mandragora, and The Trial Of A Time Lord.

In 2006, he appeared in an episode of Doctor Who Confidential.[5]

In 2013 Scream of the Shalka was released on DVD with extras which include James Goss presenting a documentary on how the series came to be made and appearing in a documentary about the BBC cult website. He also produced a series of 5 (short) documentaries called Doctor Forever which appeared across Doctor Who DVD Special Edition releases in 2013. He was also involved in producing a series of documentaries for the 50th Anniversary of Doctor Who which in 2013 were first shown on BBC America and subsequently on Watch in the UK.

Books[edit]

In 2007, he contributed to the Doctor Who short-story collection Short Trips: Snapshots. His first book, Almost Perfect, a tie-in to the Doctor Who spin-off series Torchwood, was released in October 2008 and was followed by two more Torchwoodnovels and Bad Blood, a novel based on the TV series Being Human.

Goss's Dead Air, read by David Tennant, was voted 2010 Audiobook Of The Year.[6]

His Eleventh Doctor audiobook The Hounds of Artemis was given away free with a February 2011 issue of The Guardian. It is read by Matt Smith and Clare Corbett. His books Dead of Winter (Doctor Who) and First Born (Torchwood) were both nominated for the 2012 British Fantasy Society Awards. He has written numerous stories produced by Big Finish Productions in their Doctor Who related ranges.

In 2013, BBC Books published Goss's short novel Summer Falls, purportedly written by Doctor Who character Amelia (Pond) Williams. In September 2014 his Doctor Who novel 'Blood Cell' was published (Twelfth Doctor).

In addition to the three Torchwood novels and Doctor Who novels, James Goss is the co-author, with Steve Tribe, of The Dalek Handbook (2011), Doctor Who: A History of the Universe in 100 Objects (2012) and The Doctor: His Lives and Times (2013). In 2014 he contributed to the Shakespeare Notebooks.

In 2015 his novel Haterz, about a man making the internet a better place one murder at a time, was published in the UK bySolaris Books and launched at the Forbidden Planet Megastore in London on 12 March 2015 with a book reading and signing by the author.[7]

Theatre[edit]

Goss's stage play Dirk, adapted with fellow student Arvind Ethan David from the Douglas Adams book Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency, has been staged around the world. In 2006 it won "Best Adaptation" in the 28th LA Weekly Theater Awards.[8]

He wrote the play 7 Spies At The Casino about the making of the 1967 film Casino Royale, which was performed at theEdinburgh Festival Fringe in August 2007.[9]

James Goss has also written a play about the true story of the "terribly nice friendship" between Mr Peter Cushing and SirChristopher Lee, forged during their Hammer Horror careers (see Hammer Film Productions). The play, called ‘The Gentlemen of Horror’, was first performed on 27 November 2013 at the Woolwich Grand Theatre. It was performed in the summer of 2014 at the Camden Fringe where it received favourable reviews including [10] and [11]

Other work[edit]

Goss blogged from the Edinburgh Fringe for The Guardian's web site in 2007[12] and wrote a series of guest blogs about archive television for the AOL UK TV web site in 2009-2010.[13]

As mentioned above, James Goss wrote three novels for the Doctor Who spin-off series Torchwood. In addition, in theTorchood range, he wrote four short stories, published in the Torchwood Magazine; two audiobooks, Department X andGhost Train; and two radio plays both broadcast on BBC radio 4; Golden Age on 2 July 2009 and The House of the Deadon 13 July 2011. In 2015 he became the producer of a new series of Torchwood audio stories to be produced by Big Finish Productions ( Torchwood (Big Finish series) ).

From 2011 to 2012, James Goss co-produced with Joseph Lidster, the Big Finish Productions' range of Dark Shadowsaudio dramas. In 2014 he also produced the New Adventures of Bernice Summerfield for Big Finish Productions.

Since 2012 James Goss has written three Lady Serpent Egyptian murder stories, published by Endeavor Press. These are described as fast-paced, historical murder mysteries that brilliantly capture the atmosphere of ancient Egypt – as well as being enthralling detective stories.

'A very very good box set... Alex Kingston gives River her all... more layers to her character... 9/10 Sweetie.' Planet Mondas

1.1 The Boundless Sea by Jenny T Colgan

River Song has had more than enough excitement for a while. Deciding the universe – and her husband – can look after themselves, she has immersed herself in early 20th century academia, absorbed in writing archaeological theses.

But when a mysterious tomb is found in a dry, distant land, excitement comes looking for River.

Can Professor Song stop any more members of the expedition from dying? What deadly secrets lie buried within the crypt? And will British Consul Bertie Potts prove to be a help, or a hindrance?

1.2 I Went to a Marvellous Party by Justin Richards

River Song always enjoys a good party, even when she’s not entirely sure where or when the party is taking place. But the party she ends up at is one where not everything – or indeed everyone – is what it seems…

Being River, it doesn’t take her too long to go exploring, and it doesn’t take her too long to get into trouble. The sort of trouble that involves manipulating other civilisations, exploitation, and of course murder.

River is confident she can find the killer. But can she identify them before anyone else – or quite possibly everyone else – gets killed?

1.3 Signs by James Goss

River Song is on the trail of the mysterious, planet-killing SporeShips.

Nobody knows where they come from. Nobody knows why they are here. All they do know is that wherever the SporeShips appear, whole civilisations are reduced to mulch.

But River has help. Her companion is a handsome time-travelling stranger, someone with specialist knowledge of the oddities and dangers the universe has to offer. For Mr Song has a connection to River’s future, and he would never want his wife to face those perils alone…

1.4 The Rulers of the Universe by Matt Fitton

As shocking secrets are exposed, and a grand plan for the universe is revealed, River decides it’s time she took control of events once and for all.

Out in deep space, a clandestine society faces off with an ancient and powerful alien force – but, for River, there’s an added complication.

The Eighth Doctor has been caught in the middle, and she must make sure her future husband can arrive at his own destiny with all his memories – not to mention his lives - intact…

TDP 551: The Prisoner Volume 1 from Big Finish

Based on the classic ITV series.

A limited edition of 3000 numbered box sets.

‘A new imagining of The Prisoner, keeping true to the original concept, but bringing it up to date, even futuristic. Wonderful and compulsive listening.’ Six of One (The Official Prisoner Appreciation Society)

‘An enjoyable, quirky, fun, and entertaining re-imagining of the series… It feels in tune with the original series, but is different enough to be original at the same time.’ The Unmutual (The Prisoner news website)

‘I’m not a number. I’m a free man!’

January 16th, 1967...

A secret agent resigns, then wakes up to find himself imprisoned in ‘The Village’ — a bizarre community with a cheery veneer, but an underbelly of mystery and threat. All occupants of The Village have numbers instead of names, with our secret agent forced to accept the mantel of Number Six.

The authorities running this Village are intent on discovering why Number Six resigned — but it’s a secret he steadfastly refuses to divulge. As the drama unfolds, the authorities, in the guise of the sinister Number Two, try ever more ingenious and aggressive means to bend Number Six to their will. All the while, Number Six is intent on two aims: to escape and to find out ‘Who is Number One?’.

Episode One: Departure and Arrival

A failed meeting in Belgium catalyses Agent ZM-73 to resign from his top secret post, but when he wakes the following morning everything has changed — even his name. Trapped in a bizarre coastal village, and with his every move monitored by the mysterious Number Two, the man now known as Number Six struggles to make sense of it all.

Episode Two: The Schizoid Man

Six finds himself fascinated by a strange bond which has suddenly developed between himself and Number Nine. But the next morning, Six wakes to find himself changed. A moustache, different hair, and… a new name. Number Twelve.

Episode Three: Your Beautiful Village

Something is very wrong, as Six experiences the most disturbing sense deprivation. Almost complete darkness, filled with haunting sounds, fragments of conversations, and a desperate call from Nine start to test his reason.

Episode Four: The Chimes of Big Ben

A new prisoner arrives in The Village. The woman is strong-minded, independent, and refuses to accept her new number — Eight. She is not a number, she is Nadia. And Six is convinced that she is his ticket out of The Village.

This set contains four episodes (two 78-minute, feature-length and two hour-long episodes), a Behind-the-Scenes audio documentary, and a lavish colour booklet.
